Course Aim and Academic Focus

The Diploma in Civil Engineering aims to produce middle-level technical personnel with academic knowledge and civil engineering skills that can be applied in real work settings.

Eligibility and Admission

Eligibility: Applicants should have passed SLC or SEE with a minimum C grade in compulsory Mathematics and Science and D+ in English. Applicants from Pre-Diploma in Civil Engineering need at least 67.00%.

Admission procedure, student selection, curriculum, examinations and certification are conducted under CTEVT rules and regulations. The institution has a scholarship quota of 10% of total seats.

Course Structure

The Diploma in Civil Engineering runs for three academic years across six semesters. Each semester includes 19.5 academic weeks with evaluation period, and teaching-learning hours are not less than 15 weeks in each semester.

The first year builds the academic base through Applied Nepali, Applied English, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Engineering Drawing, Computer Application, Workshop Practice and Applied Mechanics.

The second year moves into civil engineering subjects such as Surveying, Workshop Practice, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics, Building Construction, Engineering Materials, Social Engineering, Construction Drawing and CAD, Estimating and Costing, Mechanics of Structure, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, and Water Supply Engineering.

The third year includes Surveying III, Estimating and Costing, Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures, Transportation Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Construction Management, Design of Steel and Timber Structures, Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering, Entrepreneurship Development, Field Survey Camp and Project Work. Elective options include Trail Bridge, Hill Road, Hill Irrigation Engineering, Gravity Flow Water Supply System and Micro Hydro Power Engineering.

Teaching, Attendance and Assessment

The course uses classroom teaching, practical work, demonstration, guided practice, fieldwork, industrial practice, report writing, project work and related learning activities. Students must maintain at least 90% attendance in each subject to appear in the final examination.

Assessment includes internal assessment and final examination. Students must meet internal assessment requirements before appearing in final examinations. The pass requirement is at least 40% in theory and 50% in practical, along with minimum pass marks in internal assessment and semester final examinations.

Certification and Career Scope

Students who pass all components of all subjects across six semesters are awarded the Diploma in Civil Engineering. Graduates are eligible for positions equivalent to Non-gazette 1st class or Level 5 technical roles as prescribed by the Public Service Commission of Nepal and related agencies. They are also eligible for registration with the related professional council as provisioned in the relevant Council Act, where applicable.
