Course Aim and Academic Focus

The Diploma in Geomatics Engineering aims to produce middle-level technical personnel with academic knowledge and practical technical skills in the field of Geomatics Engineering.

Eligibility and Admission

Eligibility: Applicants should have passed SLC or SEE with minimum C grade in compulsory Mathematics and Science and D+ in English. Applicants from TSLC in Geometics Engineering need at least 66.68%.

Admission procedure, student selection, curriculum, examinations, and certification are conducted under CTEVT rules and regulations. Sahid Smriti Pratishthan has a scholarship quota of 10% of total seats.

Course Structure

The Diploma in Geomatics Engineering runs for three academic years across six semesters. The program follows the semester system, and one academic week consists of up to 40 hours excluding the evaluation period.

The first year builds the academic and technical base through Communication Nepali, Communication English, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Survey Drawing, Survey Instruments and Concepts, Fundamentals of Surveying and Geomatics, Computer Application, and related foundational subjects.

The second year moves into core Geomatics subjects. It includes Applied Mathematics, Fundamental of Geographic Information System, Control Survey, Cartography, Computer Aided Drafting, Fundamental of Social Science and Environment, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Topographical Survey, and Basic Computer Programming.

The third year includes Geodesy and Astronomy, Civil Construction and Quantity Survey, Cadastral Surveying, Land Administration and Land Laws, Survey Project Management, Engineering Survey, Entrepreneurship Development, GIS Applications, and Project Work. The CTEVT curriculum has no provision of elective subjects in this program.

Teaching, Attendance and Assessment

The course combines classroom learning with practical and field-oriented learning. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion, assignment, seminar, group work, demonstration, observation, simulation, guided practice, self-practice, industrial practice, project work, fieldwork, report writing, and term paper presentation.

Students must maintain at least 90% attendance in each subject to appear in the respective final examination. Assessment includes internal assessment and final examination. Students must meet internal assessment requirements before appearing in final examinations.

The pass requirement is at least 40% in theory and 50% in practical, along with minimum pass marks in internal assessment and semester final examinations.

Certification and Career Scope

Students who pass all components of all subjects across six semesters are considered to have completed the program. Successful students are awarded the Diploma in Geomatics Engineering.

Graduates are eligible for positions equivalent to Non-gazette 1st class or Level 5 technical roles as prescribed by the Public Service Commission of Nepal and related agencies. The curriculum also connects the field with survey, mapping, GIS, government, and engineering construction-related technical work.
