The Chitwan-based Agriculture and Forestry University has moved forward with preparations to admit foreign students to its bachelor’s programmes. With the admission period approaching, the university has begun final preparations for foreign student enrolment.

The university has stated that it will announce admissions after making a final policy-level decision. According to the university’s Planning Director, Ram Hari Timilsina, discussions regarding the admission of foreign students have reached the final stage, but no decision has yet been made.

He said consultations are being held with stakeholders to complete all policy preparations and management arrangements before the admission announcement is issued.

Which Programmes Will Admit Foreign Students?

The university is preparing to admit foreign students to bachelor’s programmes in agriculture, forestry, veterinary science, and fisheries science.

Although foreign students are expected to be admitted to these four programmes under the university’s three faculties, decisions have yet to be made regarding the number of quota seats and the applicable fees, Planning Director Timilsina said.

Goal of Meeting International Standards

Timilsina explained that the enrolment and teaching of foreign students is considered an important criterion for determining a university’s international standing. Discussions on foreign student admissions have therefore been taken forward as part of the university’s effort to meet international standards.

Previously, Agriculture and Forestry University had conducted short-term research programmes and classes aimed at developing the skills of foreign students. However, it had not offered study and research programmes through formal admission that would allow foreign students to earn academic degrees.

The university is preparing to introduce this practice for the first time through the new admission process.
