Auditor General Suggests Reclaiming Encroached Tribhuvan University Land
The 63rd Annual Report, 2083, of the Auditor General has suggested reclaiming the encroached land of Tribhuvan University and various other universities, ensuring its proper protection, and using it for income-generating activities.
According to the report, a total of 14,784,000 square meters of land belonging to Tribhuvan University and its subordinate bodies has been encroached upon. This includes 13,122,000 square meters under full ownership, 999,000 square meters under usage rights, and 653,000 square meters under other categories.
Similarly, the report states that out of 380 bighas of land belonging to Tikapur Multiple Campus under Sudurpaschim University, 300 bighas have been encroached upon. In the case of Pokhara University, more than 652 ropanis of land have been found encroached upon out of 1,372 ropanis, 13 annas, and 3 paisas of land under the ownership of the university in various wards of Pokhara Metropolitan City, for which usage rights were obtained from the Government of Nepal.
“Universities should maintain a central record of their assets, coordinate with the concerned bodies to reclaim encroached land, ensure its proper protection, and use it for income-generating activities,” the report states.
The report of the Search Committee on Land and Immovable Property of Tribhuvan University, 2081, submitted to the Government of Nepal on Poush 2, 2082, had recommended writing to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police regarding the misuse of land.
In line with the recommendation, Tribhuvan University has been taking necessary initiatives for the return and protection of encroached land.
