Bahrabise Municipality to Take Responsibility for Education of Children Who Lost Parents in Flood
Bahrabise Municipality has announced that it will take full responsibility for the education of children who lost their parents in the severe flood that struck Rasuwa on 10 Bhadra.
Bahrabise Municipality Mayor Balkrishna Basnet met 11-year-old Khushbu Karki of Ward No. 3, who is observing mourning rites after losing her father in the flood, and informed her that the municipality would take responsibility for her education. Her father, Padam Karki, remained out of contact following the flood. After funeral rites were performed using a symbolic effigy made of kusha grass, Khushbu is currently observing the mourning rituals.
Mayor Basnet said the municipality would take responsibility for the education of Khushbu and her elder sister, Khushi Karki, up to the bachelor’s level. He also said the municipality would take full responsibility for the education of other children who lost their parents in the Rasuwa flood.
61 People Out of Contact, Relief and Assistance Decisions Announced
A total of 61 people from Bahrabise Municipality remain out of contact following the Rasuwa flood. After searches failed to locate some of those missing, funeral rites were performed for some using symbolic effigies made of kusha grass.
The municipality is coordinating with the federal government and security agencies for the search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of those missing.
The municipality’s 99th Executive Committee meeting decided to provide Rs. 115,000 in relief to each family of individuals who remain out of contact following the flood. Mayor Basnet also said the meeting decided to contribute Rs. 2 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
Bahrabise Municipality currently provides free education up to the secondary level and day meals at all nine schools within the municipality.
