Budhanilkantha Municipality has been taking initiatives to include the Budhanilkantha Temple, which is a religious and touristic destination, in the World Heritage List.
Municipal Mayor Mitharam Adhikari said that initiatives have been taken with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to include Budhanilkantha in the World Heritage List.
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the municipality’s 12th anniversary, Mayor Adhikari informed that discussions on this matter have been held in various stages with the concerned bodies and stakeholders of the government. He said that the municipality has been active in reclaiming acquired public land.
The Mayor stated that priority has been given to education, health, infrastructure, and sports, and that the budget for the education sector has been increased to 130 million rupees, adding that day meals have been provided to students up to grade 10. The municipality has said that it has been awarding 500,000 rupees to community schools that achieve a 4 GPA and 100,000 rupees to students.
The municipality has been providing treatment to more than 300 patients daily from the municipal hospital.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Bagmati Province Minister for Labour, Employment and Transport, Jayaram Thapa, expressed appreciation for the work done by Budhanilkantha Municipality in development, good governance, and service delivery.
Deputy Mayor Anita Lama said that the staff mechanism has been working well to make the services provided to the people result-oriented.
