Halesi Tuwachung Municipality Approves Local Allowance for Teachers

Halesi Tuwachung Municipality has decided to provide a local allowance to teachers of community schools.

The executive meeting held on Saturday decided to provide a local allowance to teachers and staff of schools within the municipality area from the current fiscal year, in line with the approved government procedure.

According to Mayor Bimala Rai, the decision covers permanent teachers, temporary teachers working in approved positions, contract staff, and instructors and assistant instructors from the technical group as well. The decision has been made to raise teachers’ morale and improve the quality of community schools.

In this municipality, which is the district’s second largest with 11 wards, 86 community schools are in operation, including:

  • 12 secondary schools (up to Grade 12)

  • 15 basic schools (Grade 1 to Grade 8)

  • 59 primary-level schools (Grade 1 to Grade 5)

With the implementation of the allowance, the municipality’s annual expenditure burden will increase by NPR 17.3 million in one fiscal year.

From early childhood development centers to Grade 12, around 5,200 students are studying in this municipality. A total of 309 teachers are working in the municipality, including:

  • 14 at the secondary level

  • 28 at the lower secondary level

  • 160 at the primary level
