Kathmandu Metropolitan City: 39 Schools Rename to Reflect Nepali Identity
In 2082/2083, 39 schools operating in Kathmandu Metropolitan City changed their names to better reflect Nepali identity. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Education Department stated that the schools made these changes after complying with the metropolis’s request, which had been in place since last year.
According to Keshav Gyawali, Acting Departmental Chief of the KMC Education Department, there are currently 784 educational institutions within KMC, including:

26 basic schools

58 secondary schools

4 special schools
-
23 alternative schools
-
11 religious schools
-
28 community learning centers

425 institutional schools
KMC also reported that, in the academic session 2081, a total of 30,779 students received the opportunity to study through scholarships provided by schools under its jurisdiction. After KMC made the scholarship process system-based, the following numbers of students received scholarships:

5,895 under the girl-student scholarship

1,322 under the Dalit scholarship

455 under disability and residential scholarships
Similarly, Gyawali stated that, in institutional schools, scholarships were received by:

19,306 students in Grades 1 to 10

3,801 students in Grades 11 and 12
For the education sector, a budget of NPR 3 billion 29 crore 47 lakh 77 thousand was allocated for this year. Of this, 53.8 percent—NPR 1 billion 77 crore 34 lakh 42 thousand—has been spent.
Under internal regular programs, NPR 1 billion 4 crore 85 lakh 27 thousand was allocated, and 30 percent of that—NPR 31 crore 56 lakh 5 thousand—has been spent.
KMC stated that NPR 60 crore was allocated for the “Garikhane Shiksha, Mahanagar ko Ichchha” program, of which NPR 5 crore 1 lakh 66 (8.4 percent) has been spent.
Likewise, NPR 11 crore 14 lakh was allocated for “golden plans” in the education sector, and NPR 4 crore 32 lakh (38.8 percent) was spent.
From the federal conditional grant, NPR 1 billion 42 crore 34 lakh 50 thousand was received, and 92.9 percent of it—NPR 1 billion 32 crore 22 lakh—has been spent.
