Kathmandu Metropolitan City Directs Wards to Coordinate with Education Department on Hostel Registration and Renewal
Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has written to all ward offices regarding the registration and renewal of student hostels and hostel businesses operating within its jurisdiction.
The Revenue Department of the Metropolitan City issued the letter to make the hostel business systematic, dignified, safe, and transparent, to maintain uniformity in hostel management, and to ensure the interests of female and male students.
The letter states that, as per the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Standards Related to Hostel Operation, 2080, the monitoring committee will grant permission to operate hostels only if, after field study, observation, and supervision, the standards are found to have been met or are likely to be met.
It has been stated that the Education Department is currently monitoring hostels and moving forward with the process of record-keeping and permission. Hostels that had already been registered as businesses at the ward level before the standards were issued and have been operating by paying taxes as per the rules have been instructed to be renewed and taxed accordingly.
Regarding new registrations, the letter states that a decision was made at the level of the Acting Mayor on 2082/12/16 to grant registration permission only in coordination with the Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
The letter, signed by Deepak Adhikari, Departmental Chief of the Revenue Department, requests all ward offices to act accordingly. Copies have also been sent to the Administration Department, Education Department, and Information Technology Department.
