Preparation Classes to Be Conducted for Non-Graded Students
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel has said that the government will conduct supplementary examination preparation classes for students who have been non-graded in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE).
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives, Minister Pokharel said special preparation classes would be conducted targeting students who wish to benefit from the grade improvement examination.
He also said the government had fulfilled its commitment to publish the examination results within one month. According to the results published on Monday, 284,160 students, or 65.98 percent of the total examinees, passed the examination. However, 146,507 students were non-graded.
According to Minister Pokharel, a detailed study is being carried out across the country on school buildings, playgrounds, teachers, and other facilities. He said the Ministry has put forward a plan to restructure the entire infrastructure of the school level based on the facts obtained from the study.
During the meeting, lawmakers suggested that the government should pay special attention to the education of children displaced from squatter settlements, introduce the education bill immediately, and make e-books available for students.
Lawmakers also drew the government’s attention to the need to prevent irregularities in the school meal program and to resolve the problems of 17 types of teachers. The meeting also emphasized the need to revise the curriculum for vocational and skill-based education.
According to senior officials of the Ministry of Education, 232,105 teachers and staff are currently working in 27,000 community schools across the country. Presenting its progress report so far, the Ministry informed the meeting that various initiatives are being undertaken to improve the education sector.
