Kathmandu University and HIDCL Sign Agreement on Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Research
Kathmandu University and Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Limited (HIDCL) have signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the areas of renewable energy research, technical due diligence, and student participation.
The MoU, signed on Monday, was signed by Registrar Associate Professor Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa on behalf of Kathmandu University and Chief Executive Officer Prajesh Bikram Thapa on behalf of HIDCL.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate on research, technical studies and due diligence in the renewable energy and hydropower sectors, exchange expertise and knowledge, and promote student research and practical participation.
Preliminary Research on Green Hydrogen Production to Be Conducted
On the same occasion, a separate agreement was also signed between Kathmandu University’s AICKU and Hydroelectricity (HIDCL) regarding the preparation of a preliminary research report on hydrogen production in Nepal. The agreement was signed by AICKU Coordinator Laxman Lama and HIDCL Chief Executive Officer Prajesh Bikram Thapa.
The preliminary research report is expected to be important for identifying the feasibility and technical aspects of green hydrogen production in Nepal, as well as possibilities for future project development.
Following the agreement, AICKU Coordinator Laxman Lama expressed confidence that stronger cooperation among the university, industry, and investment sectors could help advance research, technology development, and commercial potential related to renewable energy and green hydrogen in Nepal.
