Motherland students to join UN model assembly in New York
Students of Motherland Secondary School in Masbar, Pokhara Metropolitan City-7, will participate in a Model United Nations-style assembly. Six students from Motherland will take part in the conference to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States.
According to the school’s Plus Two In-charge Narayan Acharya, the five-day assembly will begin from Sunday. Acharya said a team including students and teachers has traveled to the United States under the leadership of Principal Dr Narayan Baral.
Acharya said that Motherland is the only school selected from Nepal for this Model United Nations-style assembly held in the same format as the United Nations. Participating students will hold discussions and debates on various issues. This is Motherland’s first participation.
He said the school has been conducting practice sessions in the same style at the school. “This time, students have been able to participate themselves. This is a very important opportunity for students,” he said, adding that it will add new learning for them.
Selection process and participants
According to Acharya, students were selected after practice sessions at the school. The following will participate in the assembly:

The five-day program will include around 2,000 school students from about 50 countries.
Expected learning outcomes
Principal Dr Narayan Baral said participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with the United Nations working system and to discuss global issues and events. He said the participation and conference will be productive for skill exchange and capacity building in youth leadership development, diplomatic debate, writing, and intellectual analysis, including stronger communication skills for students, critical thinking as a student, and leadership skills.
Acharya said that in the competitive assembly, which will be conducted by dividing participants into various committees, student Kripa Baral has also been selected to deliver remarks. He said students who participate will gain early experience in logical and fact-based discussion, receive deeper information about global developments, and also be able to build connections with peers from different parts of the world. He added that it is a strong opportunity for students, and that not everyone gets such an opportunity.
