With the objective of producing competent human resources capable of formulating national security and defence-related policies and strategies of the country, the physical construction work of the National Defence University under construction in Banepa, Kavre has reached 86 percent completion. According to the Military Public Relations and Information Directorate of the Nepali Army, the overall financial progress of the project has reached 77.57 percent.
The university is being constructed in the Perunge Community Forest area of Banepa, Kavre, over an area of 750 ropani. According to the Directorate’s Director and military spokesperson Sahayak Rathi Rajarama Basnet, the target is to complete the construction work by 2083 Baisakh. The foundation stone for the construction of the physical structures of the university was laid by the then Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma on 2079 Mangsir 23.
After receiving source assurance and a multi-year contract agreement from the Ministry of Defence on 2080 Poush 8, the construction of physical structures was accelerated from 2081 Baisakh. Under the project, construction of three buildings—Student Accommodation, Central Library, and Modified Store—has been completed so far.
In addition, under the physical infrastructure, construction has been completed for a 2,600-meter khandasmit (gravel) road section, a 1,380-meter perimeter wall, a 100,000-liter capacity water tank, and deep boring. The project has been divided into 6 packages, and structures including academic, administrative, residential, office materials, and furniture are being constructed.
The university is being constructed over an area of 750 ropani in Banepa, Kavre.
So far, the physical progress is 86.04 percent and the financial progress is 77.57 percent.
Under the project, structures including three buildings and a 2,600-meter khandasmit road have been completed.
The target is to fully complete the construction work by 2083 Baisakh.
