Urges political parties, media, and citizens to act responsibly for a clean, free, and dignified election

To ensure that the upcoming House of Representatives member election scheduled for 2082 Falgun 21 is dignified, fear-free, and impartial, the National Information Commission (Rastriya Suchana Aayog) has issued a special appeal. In line with its core duty of promoting citizens’ right to be informed, the Commission has urged every body, class, and sector to play its role to make the election successful.
The Commission has directed political parties to fully comply with the election code of conduct and to immediately disseminate information of public concern. The notice states that parties must make public the details of their official social media accounts and must communicate only factual details about candidates. It also states that if an information officer has not been appointed, arrangements must be made immediately.
The Commission has urged media outlets to remain independent and impartial while disseminating election-related news. It has emphasized that, without coming under the influence of any side, media must provide equal access in the media to all parties and candidates, and must follow the rules of impartiality and balance.
The general public has been advised to confirm whether any information has been issued by an official body and to remain cautious about not following misleading information. The Commission has also called on the public to check the credibility of sources before liking or sharing information on social media, and to make necessary use of the right to information provided by the Constitution of Nepal.
