Government Preparing to Increase Foreign Student Quota in Medical Education
The Government of Nepal is preparing to increase the quota for foreign students to study medical education. Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel gave this information while speaking at a meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the Federal Parliament, National Assembly, on Tuesday.
According to Education Secretary Paudel, medical education is the area that attracts the highest interest among foreign students who wish to come to Nepal. Taking this into consideration, he clarified that the government is preparing to make a policy decision to add quotas for foreign students.
In addition, he said discussions are also being held with the Ministry of Home Affairs on facilitating student visas for foreign students coming to study at universities in Nepal.
Briefing the committee meeting, Secretary Paudel said, “At present, around 1,400 foreign students are studying at universities in Nepal. Discussions are being held with the Ministry of Home Affairs to facilitate student visas, and since the attraction of foreign students toward medical education has increased, the government is preparing to expand their quota.”
Secretary Paudel also informed the committee that around 1,400 students from various countries are currently studying at universities in Nepal, and among them, the highest attraction is toward medical education.
