Prof. Dr. Bidya Nath Koirala Calls for Change in Teaching and Learning Methods to Improve Education Quality

Educationist Prof Dr Bidya Nath Koirala has said that improving educational quality, providing life-useful education, and producing human resources suited to the times is possible if the methods and styles of reading, teaching, learning, and facilitating learning are changed.

Speaking at a discussion program titled “Higher Education in Nepal: Current Status, Possibilities, and Challenges”, organised on Wednesday on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus—the only constituent campus of Dhaulagiri—Prof Dr Koirala stressed the need to promote technology-friendly education by connecting every student to research. He also emphasised that efforts should be made to enable learners to understand and interpret the curriculum, rather than limiting them within the curriculum’s boundaries.

During the program, Prof Dr Koirala also explained issues such as how to create employment by incorporating the curiosity of students, teachers, and other stakeholders, and how to connect Nepal’s traditional products with modern markets. He suggested that policies should not become obstacles and that work styles should be changed to make progress.

Stating that plans and budgets do not produce achievements unless they are utilised effectively, he said innovation must now be adopted in every task. He also added that society can develop in Nepal as well, if teachers and students fulfil their responsibilities and duties, similar to the practice seen in Japan.

At the event, Chairperson of the Campus Management Committee Prof Dr Din Bahadur Thapa delivered a presentation on the theme “Higher Education in Nepal: Current Status, Possibilities, and Challenges”, while Assistant Professor Biplab Sharma conducted a panel discussion with Prof Dr Koirala.

Assistant Professor Hiralal Regmi presented remarks during the program. The event was held under the chairmanship of Student Union member Biros Chhetri and was conducted by Treasurer Bishal Thapa.

The campus has marked the anniversary as a week-long celebration by combining sports and academic discussions with various activities. The main ceremony will be held on the day of Shreepanchami.
