Student Numbers Declining in Rural Community Schools
The government has stated that the number of students in community schools in rural areas has been declining. The Economic Survey 2082/83, made public on Wednesday, states that the number of students in schools in rural areas has been decreasing due to increasing migration to urban areas and a decline in the birth rate.
According to the survey, there are 27,010 community schools across the country in 2082. Among them, 13,736 schools have fewer than 100 students. This is 50.85 percent of the total community schools.
The status of student numbers in community schools is as follows:

The survey states that community schools with more than 2,000 students account for only 0.47 percent. It also states that schools with low student numbers are being mapped and gradually adjusted.
Last year, in 2081, the number of community schools was 27,298. The survey states that due to adjustment, the number of community schools decreased to 27,010 in 2082.
The share of institutional schools, however, appears to be increasing. In the academic session 2082, among total schools, community schools accounted for 71.27 percent, institutional schools for 24.87 percent, and traditional/religious schools for 3.86 percent.
In the previous academic session, these shares were 73.0 percent, 23.0 percent, and 4.0 percent, respectively. In 2082, there are 35,951 schools, including 27,010 community schools and 8,941 institutional schools.
