Tarakhola to Start Magar Language Classes From 2083
Baglung (Galkot), Magh 22, 2082 — Tarakhola Rural Municipality in Baglung has decided to begin Magar-language teaching in some community schools from the upcoming academic session.
Following a feasibility study on Magar-language instruction, the rural municipality has prepared to start Magar-language classes from academic session 2083, said Yubaraj Sharma, Chief of the Education Section at Tarakhola Rural Municipality.
An interaction and training program has been conducted regarding the selection of the Magar language variety spoken by the Magar community living within Tarakhola Rural Municipality.
At the program, National Assembly member Suresh Ale Magar, Coordinator of the National Indigenous Nationalities Joint Front Nepal, shared information related to the past, present, and future of the Magar language in Nepal.
He said it is commendable that the local government is initiating Magar-language teaching at the school level to preserve the Magar language.
On the same occasion, former minister of Gandaki Province Chandrabahadur Budha Magar (Sagar) suggested that the rural municipality move forward by selecting an appropriate language variety and script for this area through consultation with all concerned.
Tarakhola Rural Municipality has formed a feasibility study committee for Magar-language instruction under the coordination of Jitbahadur Khatri, Coordinator of the Social Development Committee and Ward Chair of Ward No. 4. It has been stated that the committee will visit various schools and conduct interaction programs in different phases with parents, teachers, and stakeholders.
Among the Magar language varieties, participants expressed the view that, considering the geographical area and the Magar community here, Dhut is suitable. As the entire legal process related to Magar-language instruction, including a decision of the executive committee meeting, has been completed, the rural municipality will now proceed toward teacher training and book printing, said Chairperson Dhan Bahadur Bik.
In the first phase, optional Magar-language classes will be run from Grade 1 at Durga Bhawani Secondary School in Ward No. 5 and Argal Secondary School in Ward No. 2, said Chief Administrative Officer Bimal Rijal.
