Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Education has received QAA accreditation from the University Grants Commission.
The University Grants Commission awarded QAA to the department after testing 120 different criteria. QAA is described as an international benchmark for academic quality.
The department shared this information during a program held today.
What officials said about QAA
According to Professor Keshav Poudel of the Department of Education, QAA is provided only when there are strong academic outcomes and adequate physical infrastructure.
He said the preconditions include a high pass rate and special arrangements for research-based study, among other requirements.
He added that after receiving QAA, the institution gains recognition as a quality academic institution at both national and international levels.
Three-stage QAA system
The department has received the first stage of QAA under a three-stage system.
If the department improves quality further, it can receive the second stage of QAA.
After receiving the third stage of QAA, the department will obtain recognition as a standard university.
Maintaining the accreditation
Professor Poudel said that to protect the QAA recognition and to obtain the second level of QAA, financial discipline must be strengthened, including reducing irregularities.
Additional remarks from the program
Speaking at the program, Ved Raj Acharya said the department achieved QAA after significant effort and that it will motivate other campuses as well.
He said sufficient budget should be allocated for research.
Former dean and Professor Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki said the QAA recognition has encouraged further improvement.
He said the condition of some colleges after receiving QAA has been seen as weaker than before, and that stakeholders should remain alert.
He said improvement is needed not only in regular teacher and student attendance but also in the overall academic environment.
