TU Task Force Begins Work to Review Student Fees Across Faculties

Tribhuvan University (TU) has started work today through a task force formed to review the fees being collected from students across various faculties.

Last week, TU’s Executive Council formed a high-level task force to review fees under the coordination of Dr Dilip Parajuli, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Management. The task force was formed after student organisations opposed the fee issue, leading to obstruction at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and disruptions to the university’s regular activities.

Task Force Members and Mandate

The task force includes:

• Dhruva Karki, Head of the Central Department of English

• Prof Dr Surya Bahadur Thapa, Head of the Central Department of Education

Coordinator Dr Parajuli stated that the task force has been instructed to study all types of fees collected by all institutes, constituent campuses, and affiliated campuses within three months. The task force has been assigned to recommend procedures to ensure the fees are updated according to current needs and made uniform across the system.

Obstruction at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office

The university’s work has been affected after Akhil (Revolutionary), affiliated with the Nepal Communist Party, placed a statement on the main gate of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in a way that obstructed office operations. The group has demanded the withdrawal of the fee increase, among other issues.

Ongoing Talks to Resolve the Stalemate

Meanwhile, TU is holding discussions and consultations to resolve the situation. The talks are being coordinated by Dipendra Parajuli, Chief of the Student Welfare Directorate.
