Overview
Birendra Namuna Campus (BNC), established in 2063 B.S. (2006 A.D.), is a community-managed, non-profit academic institution located in Chandragadhi, Bhadrapur Municipality, Jhapa, Nepal.
Affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU), the campus was founded with a strong commitment to improving access to higher education in eastern Nepal, particularly for students from underprivileged backgrounds.
The institution was born out of a grassroots movement by local residents who recognized the need for accessible education for girls, Dalit students, and learners from economically challenged households.
Before its establishment, the absence of local higher education options led many students—especially young women—to discontinue their studies. Cultural and financial constraints frequently pushed them toward early marriage or unskilled labor.
Since its inception, BNC has served as a vital academic hub for nearby regions, including Bhadrapur, Haldibari, Kachankawal, Baradashi, and Birtamode, and has also welcomed students from Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Morang, and Dhankuta. With a current enrollment of 688 students (453 female and 235 male), BNC reflects a significant shift in regional access to education.
