Budhinanda Campus (बुढीनन्दा क्याम्पस) is a community campus located in Budhinanda Municipality-2, Kolti, Bajura, in Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal. Campus Background

Budhinanda Campus was formally established on 18 Poush 2064 BS. The initiative began through a gathering of education-focused parents and local personalities at the meeting hall of Shree Jana Prakash Secondary School. The campus was named Budhinanda Campus through that local initiative and later developed as a community-based higher education institution in Kolti.

The campus was founded to provide bachelor-level study opportunities within the region. This purpose is relevant for students from Bajura and nearby high-hill areas, where access to higher education often depends on local availability.

Budhinanda Campus operates as a non-profit, service-oriented community educational institution. Its institutional development has been supported through University Grants Commission grants, local-level support, donations, student fees, and other institutional income sources.

Location and Local Context

Budhinanda Campus is located in Kolti, Ward No. 2 of Budhinanda Municipality in Bajura district. Bajura is one of the districts of Sudurpashchim Province, and Budhinanda Municipality lies in the northeastern part of the district near the Karnali River.

Kolti has long been known as a local commercial and settlement center. The area has also been associated with routes used by travelers moving toward Rara, Humla, Jumla, Tibet, and other parts of Nepal. The presence of secondary schools up to Grade 12 around Budhinanda Municipality has created a local base of students who may continue to bachelor-level study within the region.

The campus is located more than 700 km from Kathmandu. Its position in Kolti makes it relevant for students from surrounding settlements seeking higher education closer to home.

The campus received affiliation for Bachelor of Arts on 2064/05/19 BS. The Bachelor of Education program was added under TU affiliation on 2069/03/31 BS. Both programs are active.

Programs Offered

Budhinanda Campus offers two bachelor-level programs under Tribhuvan University.

Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Arts is offered under the Humanities and Social Science faculty. The program provides an undergraduate pathway in humanities and social science study.

Under Tribhuvan University, the BA program is a four-year bachelor’s program under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The course includes interdisciplinary study areas such as English, Nepali, Anthropology, Geography, History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Nepal Bhasa, Culture, Rural Development, Social Work, Film Studies, Hindi, Linguistics, and Population Studies.

The TU BA course carries 2,000 marks, with 500 marks in each year. Students study compulsory subjects, major subjects, and elective subjects. Compulsory subjects include English, Nepali, and Nepal Studies.

Bachelor of Education

Under Tribhuvan University, the four-year B.Ed. annual system is a professional and academic program designed for teacher preparation. Students study communication skills, professional core courses, specialization major courses, specialization minor courses, and teaching internship or practicum.

The TU B.Ed. structure includes 22 courses with a total of 2,200 marks. The program includes communication skills, professional core areas, specialization major courses, specialization minor courses, and teaching internship or practicum.

Eligibility Context for TU Programs

For the TU BA program, students must meet the eligibility requirements set for admission to the program, including Grade 11 and Grade 12 completion requirements or an equivalent intermediate, Proficiency Certificate, or 10+2 level qualification recognized by Tribhuvan University.

For the TU B.Ed. program, students with Higher Secondary Education Examination Pass Certificate, Proficiency Certificate Level of Tribhuvan University, or an equivalent Grade 12 qualification are eligible for admission. Some specialization areas have additional subject-specific requirements.

The physical assets include desks and benches, chairs, cupboards, office tables and chairs, computers, printers, projectors, laptops, and bookshelves. Wi-Fi, office facilities, library access, and CCTV cameras have been installed across campus rooms and premises.

The campus has also received support under a higher education management information system grant connected with digitalization work for the fiscal year 2080/81 BS. This work is linked with the preparation and publication of physical, financial, educational, administrative, and statistical campus data through a digital system.

Student Support and Scholarships

Budhinanda Campus provides scholarships for students with financial need. The campus serves students from local communities, including marginalized and economically disadvantaged groups in and around Budhinanda Municipality and nearby settlements.

The surrounding area includes communities such as Bohara, Dhami, Rokaya, BK, Sarki, Kami, Damai, Gurung, and others. The campus’s role in higher education is closely connected with access for students from rural and educationally backward communities.

Budhinanda Campus operates through different sources of support. Its income sources include individual and institutional donations, grants, fees, and interest from fixed deposits.

The campus has received regular and physical grants from the University Grants Commission, physical grants from local levels, donations from donors, and student fees. A fund of around 15 lakhs rupees was raised from donations by education-supporting parents.

The governing structure has been reorganized under the campus rules and regulations prescribed by Tribhuvan University. The Campus Management Committee is part of the institution’s administration and development.

Local Role of the Campus

Budhinanda Campus was established to support higher education in Kolti and surrounding parts of Bajura. Before the establishment of a local campus, students from the area had fewer options for bachelor-level education near home.

The campus’s location in a central settlement area gives it a practical role for students from nearby communities. The presence of road connections from Nepalgunj to Kolti and Dhangadhi to Kolti has increased movement in the area. The development of hydropower projects and local infrastructure has also changed the local environment around Kolti.

The campus aims to support education in the wider region by helping Kolti develop as an education center for nearby settlements.
