PCL Nursing (Staff Nurse) program

The PCL Nursing program at Janakpur Nursing Campus runs for three academic years. The annual intake is 40 students.

Under the CTEVT PCL Nursing curriculum, the program follows a yearly system. One academic year consists of up to 40 weeks, and one academic week consists of up to 40 hours, excluding the evaluation period. The medium of instruction is English and/or Nepali.

Eligibility and admission

For PCL Nursing under CTEVT, applicants must meet the academic entry requirements and pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT. Eligible applicants are selected for admission on a merit basis.

The entry criteria include:

• SLC in second division with 45 percent marks, including English, Science, and Mathematics; or

• SEE with minimum GPA 2.0 and C grade in Compulsory Mathematics, English, and Science; or

• SLC passed plus TSLC in Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) with minimum 68.33 percent.

Curriculum and learning areas

The program includes theoretical and practical learning. The first year focuses on basic nursing care in hospital and community settings. The second year focuses on preventive, promotive, and therapeutic nursing care for adults, elderly individuals, and mentally ill individuals. The third year includes pediatric nursing, midwifery, gynecology, leadership, and management.

The course includes subjects such as Fundamental of Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Anatomy and Physiology, Basic Science Applied to Nursing, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery, Gynecological Nursing, Child Health Nursing, and Leadership and Management.

Examination and certification

Students must complete internal assessment requirements before appearing in final examinations. They must pass both theory and practical components of all subjects for certification.

The pass marks are 40 percent in theory and 50 percent in practical. Students who pass all components of all subjects across all three years are awarded the Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing qualification.

A back paper provision is available under CTEVT rules. Students must pass all subjects of all years within six years from the enrollment date.

Scholarship provision

Janakpur Nursing Campus provides scholarship facilities on the basis of merit and for underprivileged students. The scholarship provision includes 10 percent of the total quota, following CTEVT rules and guidelines.
