Eligibility Criteria
To gain entry into this course, students must meet the following requirements:
Educational qualification: Must have appeared in the SEE examination from a recognized institution and obtained the minimum grade (generally E grade or equivalent). Or, must have passed SLC (old system).
Age: Must have completed 16 years of age (as operating industrial machinery is required).
Selection: Must pass the written and practical entrance examinations conducted by BTI. This includes a focused assessment of mathematical knowledge and technical aptitude.
Duration and Structure
This program is generally of 24 months (2 years) duration (as per BTI’s apprenticeship model).
First year (In-house Training): Students learn basic skills in BTI’s own workshops.
Second year (OJT – On the Job Training): Students are sent to work in real industries in and around Butwal (such as Butwal Power Company, Nepal Hydro and Electric, and others). There, they learn real problem-solving under senior engineers.

In many institutes in Nepal, students practice on pieces of metal and the scrap is discarded. At BTI, however, items made by pre-diploma students (such as nuts and bolts, gears, windows, and doors) are sold in the market.
