The Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) at Udaya Saraswati Campus is a four-year undergraduate management program affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU). The course is offered under the Faculty of Management and follows the annual examination system prescribed by the university.

Udaya Saraswati Campus is a community campus located in Krishnapur Municipality-2, Bunk, Kanchanpur, Sudurpashchim Province. Established in 2013 AD (2070 BS), the campus provides local access to bachelor-level management education and receives support from the University Grants Commission of Nepal.

BBS Course Overview

The program combines business foundations, management concepts, quantitative subjects, communication, accounting, finance, marketing, economics, taxation, entrepreneurship and research. Students also complete concentration courses and a final project during the fourth year.

Purpose of the BBS Program

The BBS program is designed to prepare students for managerial responsibilities in business, industry, government and other organised sectors. It introduces students to the concepts and practices used in business administration while building a broad understanding of how organisations operate.

The program aims to develop conceptual knowledge, practical ability and responsible management attitudes. It also gives students a foundation for entrepreneurship and further academic study in management-related fields.

BBS graduates are expected to understand major business functions and apply management knowledge in changing organisational settings. The curriculum also encourages students to examine business problems, communicate professionally and take part in research and project-based work.

BBS Curriculum Structure

The four-year curriculum includes compulsory courses, core business courses, concentration subjects and final project work. Each academic year carries 500 marks, making a total of 2,000 marks across the program.

First Year

The first year establishes the academic base required for business and management studies.

Business English develops language, reading and writing abilities for academic and professional settings. Business Statistics introduces statistical and mathematical tools used in management decisions.

Microeconomics for Business covers demand, supply, market behaviour, production, costs and pricing. Financial Accounting and Analysis introduces accounting records and financial interpretation, while Principles of Management examines basic managerial functions and organisational practices.

Second Year

The second year develops knowledge of communication, economics, accounting, organisational behaviour and finance.

These courses help students understand communication in business, national economic conditions, organisational behaviour, human resource practices, cost analysis and financial decision-making.

Third Year

The third year covers the legal, financial, strategic, taxation and marketing environment of business.

Business Law introduces legal principles and frameworks related to commercial activities. Foundation of Financial Systems examines financial institutions and systems, while Business Environment and Strategy connects organisational decisions with economic, social and institutional conditions.

Taxation in Nepal introduces relevant taxation concepts and practices. Fundamentals of Marketing covers markets, customers, products, distribution and promotional decisions.

Fourth Year

The fourth year allows students to study a selected functional area and complete research and project requirements.

Students select three concentration courses from one functional area. Tribhuvan University offers concentration areas in accounting, finance, management and marketing.

Accounting courses may include: Accounting for Banking, Accounting for Business, Advanced Financial Accounting, Auditing, and Advanced Cost and Management Accounting.

Finance courses may include: Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, Commercial Bank Management, Management of Financial Institutions, Fundamentals of Investment, and Insurance and Risk Management.

Management courses may include: International Business, Small and Medium Enterprises, Event Management, Project Management, and Technology and Information Management.

Marketing courses may include: Fundamentals of Selling, Customer Relationship Management, Foreign Trade and Export Management in Nepal, Fundamentals of Advertising, and Fundamentals of Services Marketing.

Eligibility for Admission

Applicants seeking admission to the BBS program must have successfully completed 10+2 in business or commerce, or an equivalent course recognised by Tribhuvan University.

Applicants must also meet any additional entry requirements or criteria prescribed by the Faculty Board or Udaya Saraswati Campus. Admission arrangements are managed according to the applicable academic requirements of the campus and Tribhuvan University.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The BBS program may use a combination of classroom lectures, group discussions, problem-solving exercises, guest lectures, practical activities and project work. Case-based teaching may also be used where appropriate.

At Udaya Saraswati Campus, students receive support through regular teaching by qualified and experienced faculty members. The campus also arranges guest teaching sessions, internal examinations and free additional classes.

Training activities and educational tours are organised for student development. Free Wi-Fi is available for students who need to search for subject-related learning materials.

Attendance and Annual Examinations

The final academic evaluation is conducted through annual examinations administered by the Office of the Controller of Examinations, Tribhuvan University.

Students must maintain at least 70 percent attendance in the classes conducted to qualify for the annual examination. A student is not permitted to appear in the second-year final examination without first appearing in the first-year final examination.

The annual examination grading structure is:

• Third Division: 35 percent

• Second Division: 45 percent

• First Division: 60 percent

• Distinction: 75 percent

Students must pass theoretical, practical and project components separately where the course includes more than one form of assessment.

Final Project Work

Final project work is an academic requirement for fourth-year BBS students. It connects management study with organisational observation and field-based learning.

Students undertake fieldwork and spend four weeks studying an organisation during the period arranged by the campus. After completing the fieldwork, each student prepares a project report in the format prescribed by the Faculty of Management.

The report is submitted to the campus for evaluation. Students may also be required to present their work before faculty members or the class. Evaluation involves internal and external examiners, followed by a viva voce examination conducted through the concerned campus research committee.

Graduation Requirements

To complete the BBS degree, students must pass 19 courses carrying 1,950 marks and submit a final project report carrying 50 marks.

All required theory, practical and project components must be completed successfully. Students must also finish the program within the time limit prescribed by Tribhuvan University.

Scholarships at Udaya Saraswati Campus

Udaya Saraswati Campus has scholarship provisions covering up to 100 percent of educational support.

Special scholarships are available for students from economically disadvantaged, Indigenous or tribal, Dalit and freed-labourer backgrounds. Merit-based scholarships are also available.

Students who secure an A+ grade in the annual Class 12 examination are eligible for a full scholarship under the campus scholarship arrangement.
