Janata Multiple Campus Punarbas (जनता बहुमुखी क्याम्पस, पुर्नबास, कन्चनपुर) is a community-owned higher education institution in Punarbas Municipality–06, Tribhuvan Basti, Kanchanpur, Sudurpashchim Province. Established in 2002 AD (2059 BS), the campus is affiliated with Tribhuvan University and supported by the University Grants Commission of Nepal.

The campus offers bachelor’s programs in humanities and social sciences, education, and management. It was established to expand access to higher education for students facing financial and geographical barriers to studying in Mahendranagar or other urban centres. Women, married students, Dalit students, Janajati students, and learners from low-income households form an important part of its academic community.

Establishment and Local Background

Janata Multiple Campus was established through the joint efforts of local intellectuals, educationists, political representatives, guardians, and community stakeholders. Its formation was connected with the higher education needs of the southeastern part of Kanchanpur district.

The present Punarbas Municipality developed from areas previously organised as Tribhuvanbasti, Parasan, Kalika, and Baisebichuwa village development committees. The locality is home to Brahmin, Chhetri, Janajati, Dalit, and other communities.

Before the campus was established, students seeking higher education commonly had to travel to Mahendranagar, now known as Bhimdattanagar. The city is around 70 kilometres from the Punarbas area. Travel, accommodation, and daily living costs created barriers for students from households with limited income.

The campus was founded to bring bachelor-level education closer to these communities. Its establishment enabled students to continue their studies while remaining near their families and regular responsibilities. This local access has been particularly relevant for women and married students who could not easily relocate for higher education.

Community Ownership and Institutional Development

As a community-owned campus, Janata Multiple Campus has developed through cooperation among the institution, local residents, government bodies, and education-related organisations. Community members supported its establishment, contributed donations, offered guidance, and worked with public representatives to seek institutional assistance.

The campus initially conducted its academic activities from the premises of Punarwas Janata Secondary School. It later developed its own physical infrastructure on approximately five katta of land in Tribhuvan Basti.

Its academic buildings were constructed with financial assistance from the University Grants Commission and government bodies. The campus has continued to identify additional classroom space and infrastructure development as institutional priorities because it operates programs across three academic areas.

Tribhuvan University Affiliation

Janata Multiple Campus is affiliated with Tribhuvan University. It received affiliation in 2059 BS to conduct programs under humanities and social sciences.

The education program began in 2063 BS, followed by the management program in 2066 BS. These additions expanded the academic scope of the campus from its initial humanities and social sciences offering to three bachelor-level study areas.

Tribhuvan University affiliation connects the campus programs with the university’s academic structures, examinations, and degree system. Students study under the requirements of the relevant TU faculty and program.

Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts program is offered under the humanities and social sciences stream of Tribhuvan University. It provides undergraduate study in arts, social sciences, languages, and related disciplines available within the TU structure.

Local intellectuals, social workers, guardians, and political representatives provide suggestions, contribute to campus activities, and support efforts to obtain assistance from local government bodies.

Physical Infrastructure

The campus owns approximately five katta of land in Tribhuvan Basti. Two-storey academic buildings have been developed on the campus property with support from the University Grants Commission and government bodies.

The infrastructure supports classes conducted across humanities and social sciences, education, and management. The campus has also recognised the need for additional classrooms to meet the requirements of its three academic areas.

The development of its own property marked a transition from the campus’s earlier operation within Punarwas Janata Secondary School.

Role in Higher Education in Punarbas

Janata Multiple Campus serves as a locally accessible Tribhuvan University-affiliated institution for bachelor-level study in Punarbas and surrounding communities.
