Abal Brahmachari Shadananda Foundation Honours Two Creators

Abal Brahmachari Shadananda Foundation has honoured and awarded two creators who have contributed to literature, art, history, and related fields.

On Tuesday, at a programme organized in the capital to mark the 191st birth anniversary of Abal Brahmachari Shadananda and the 18th anniversary of the foundation, litterateur and Mundhum scholar Til Bikram Nembang (Bairagi Kainla) and Associate Professor Kashinath Tamot, a scholar of Newar culture, language, and literature, were awarded.

Poet Bairagi Kainla was conferred the Shadananda National Award along with a cash prize of one hundred thousand rupees, and Associate Professor Kashinath Tamot was conferred the Shadananda Regional Award along with a cash prize of fifty-one thousand rupees.

At the programme chaired by the foundation’s President, Prof. Chetonath Gautam, litterateur Shashi Lumumbu shed light on the life of Mundhum scholar and writer Bairagi Kainla, stating that he dedicated his entire life to literature and, while serving in a responsible position at the Nepal Academy, contributed to the promotion of languages by establishing the Mother Tongue Department.

Similarly, while discussing the life of Associate Professor Tamot, Dayakrishna Nyaopane stated that Tamot, as a scholar of Nepal Bhasha and culture, has made a significant contribution to the promotion of these fields and to the advancement of Nepali literature. The report on the current status of the Shadananda Sitaram Guthi was jointly launched by yoga and tantra scholar Prof. Vidyanath Upadhyay Bhatt, the foundation’s President Prof. Chetonath Gautam, poet Bairagi Kainla, and others.

The foundation’s Vice President, Prof. Lalanath Subedi, discussed the report on the current status of the Shadananda Sitaram Guthi, explaining the various activities of the guthi and its inscriptions and history, and informed that further study is ongoing. The foundation’s Secretary, Prof. Dr. Badrivishal Bhattarai, stated that the foundation has been continuously working to publicize and promote the works of Abal Brahmachari Shadananda, who contributed to the upliftment of Nepali literature, education, and culture.
