Madhuparka Sudurpashchim–Karnali Special Issue Launched

Gorkhapatra Sansthan’s literary magazine Madhuparka has launched its Sudurpashchim and Karnali special issue in Dhangadhi.

The issue was launched today on the occasion of Poush 15, a festival celebrated with enthusiasm in Sudurpashchim. The launch took place during a Poush 15 special program organized by Sudurpashchim Sahitya Samaj, Dhangadhi, and Deuda Pratisthan, Dhangadhi.

Speaking at the program, General Manager Airi said that Madhuparka published one issue focused on Sudurpashchim and Karnali as an effort to practice federalism. He said, “We have begun efforts to practice how we can align with federalism, and whether the country’s existing social, political, and administrative structure is compatible with federalism.”

Airi stated that Madhuparka, which carries Nepal’s literary legacy, has added another chapter to its stature in Nepali literature through this special issue. He noted that Madhuparka, which began in 2025 BS, has been published with a geography-focused theme for the first time, and that the initiative started with Sudurpashchim and Karnali.

Discussing the role of language, literature, and culture in shaping a philosophy, he added that whether one is Sudurpashchimeli, Westerner, or Karnalibasi, the society’s structure is shaped by its philosophy. He said the Deuda tradition, the Doteli language, and the local culture together form the civilization, and expressed a strong sense of pride, as both the General Manager of the institution and the publisher of the publication, in being able to publish the special issue in a way that represents that civilization.

At the program, Madhuparka’s Acting Editor Tribhuvan Chandra Wagle said that just as there is a saying, “If justice is lost, go to Gorkha,” there is a need to create a saying that if culture and heritage are lost, one should come to Karnali and Sudurpashchim. He said, “If civilization is lost, one must come here. If one wants to search for the Khas civilization, the Khas state, and the empire that existed here at one time, this is where we come.”

Similarly, Ram Lal Joshi, President of Sudurpashchim Sahitya Samaj, said that Madhuparka would make a major contribution to uplifting the vast culture and literature of the Sudurpashchim and Karnali region. He also discussed the close affinity between Madhuparka, Sudurpashchim Province, and the writers of this region.

Writer Shresthapriya Patthar said that Sudurpashchim has found a sense of belonging in Madhuparka, and that having a work published in it is evidence of quality. Patthar described Madhuparka as the moon in the sky.

On the occasion of the Poush 15 special program, there was a gathering of various writers. Deuda performances, village-themed stories, and poetry recitations were also presented. The program was chaired by Ram Lal Joshi, President of Sudurpashchim Sahitya Samaj.
