Overview
Kapilvastu Municipality, located in the district headquarters of Kapilvastu under Lumbini Province, lies at 27 degrees 54 minutes north latitude and 83 degrees 04 minutes east longitude.
It was established in 2039 B.S. under the name Taulihawa Village Panchayat. The municipality originally included the entire areas of the former Bargadwa, Malpara, Pipari, and Kapilvastu Adarsha Village Panchayats, as well as parts of Gotihawa, Gobari, and Tilaurakot Village Panchayats.
Municipal Restructuring and Ward Distribution
Initially, the municipality had 14 wards. According to the decision of the Government of Nepal dated 2071/07/21 B.S., the entire areas of the former Gotihawa and Tilaurakot Village Panchayats were incorporated, increasing the number of wards to 19.
Following the restructuring of local bodies, the former Dharampaniya, Dohani, Jahadi, Niglihawa, and Sauraha Village Development Committees were also included.
At present, Kapilvastu Municipality comprises 12 wards and spans an area of 136.91 square kilometers.

According to the 2021 census (2078 B.S.), the total population of the municipality is 88,874.
