Thakre Rural Municipality (Nepali: थाक्रे गाउपालिका) was established following the Government of Nepal's decision on 2073-11-9 B.S. It was officially announced in the gazette on 2073-11-27 B.S. during local-level restructuring.
Thakre Gaupalika was formed by merging the former VDCs of Kebalpur, Thakre, Tasarphu, Bhumesthan, and Goganpani wards 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Currently, the Rural Municipality is divided into 11 wards.

The total area of Thakre Rural Municipality is 96.41 square kilometers.
East: Dhunibesi Municipality
West: Galchhi Rural Municipality
North: Galchhi Rural Municipality and Nuwakot District
South: Makawanpur District
Thakre Rural Municipality's administrative headquarters are in Mahadevbeshi, Dhading District.
According to data from the 2017 local elections, the municipality's population is 32,914.
