100 Year Ago Spanish Flu

100 Year Ago Spanish Flu and Coronavirus:

Today, countries around the world are troubled by the global Pandemic coronavirus. All are engaged in every effort to deal with this epidemic on their behalf. The United States is doing various experiments to treat it. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has said that in a few days the cases of corona infection will increase to 1 million and the death toll will reach 50,000. This is not the first time such an epidemic has occurred. 100 years ago, the world has suffered the same epidemic. A similar situation arose in 1918–1919 when the Spanish Flu epidemic emerged.

On the one hand, at the end of World War I, life was returning back, on the other hand, soldiers returning home from the war were bringing with them the deaths of millions of people. The reason was that the cemeteries had become small, there was no place for the burial of people. All this was happening not only in one country but all over the world. About one-third of the world's population (500 million) was affected by the Spanish flu pandemic and nearly 50 million people died. In India alone, about 6 percent (of the total population) lost their lives due to the flu. On the one hand, there was the joy of ending the war, on the other side, there was the pain of death and loss of loved ones. It was such a dreadful year when there were more deaths than births.

How did this virus start

It first started in Spain due to a deadly strain of avian influenza (a dangerous virus known as bird flu in India) and spread due to World War I. In India, the disease brought soldiers who went to fight in World War I. The first patient infected with this virus was a soldier found in Bombay Presidency. At that time there was not much information about the virus and doctors did not know how to treat people.

There was no way to avoid the virus, except by quarantining, keeping oneself in isolation, and sanitization. People getting sick were advised to gargle with salt water and quarantine. "Karl Marx said that history repeats itself, first as a tragedy and second as a joke." History is undoubtedly repeating itself, but at other times, even far away, only tragedy can be seen. is. And this is the cause of the tragedy, Coronavirus, which has just infected 1 million people.

To save the world from this epidemic, the lockdown was done like today. Many schools, churches, and public places were locked. Many sensitive cities were locked. These steps were taken only in some presidencies that were independent because the federal government did not have the authority to make decisions at that time.

Handwashing was taught for hygiene by advertising in all the newspapers of the time. There were advertisements for hand washing in newspapers. Posters were put on the streets and told how to avoid the virus. Not wearing a mask made it a rule to go to jail. The same state of the epidemic is again in Kovid-19 today. The recruitment of nurses was out. Social distancing was advised.

According to research published in the Journal of the American Society of Cytopathology, many American cities saw a 30 to 50 percent reduction in mortality. Because here, precautionary steps were taken with the decision of flu. At the same time, deaths were more in cities where lockdown was done or precautionary measures like detention were taken.
