Kathmandu, Saturday, February 7, 2026 [2082 Magh 25, BS]: Nepali-origin American runner Bal Joshi has entered the Guinness Book of World by completing the World Marathon Challenge in a daura suruwal.
Under the World Marathon Challenge, Joshi ran seven marathons held over seven consecutive days across seven continents, wearing a daura suruwal, and set a world record. He also became the first runner in the world to run in Nepali attire in this way.
Certificate Awarded in Miami
At the closing ceremony of the marathon held in Miami, USA, on Friday, Guinness Book of World representative Michael Imprik presented Joshi with a certificate.
The marathon began in Antarctica on January 31 and concluded in Miami, USA, on February 6.
Flags Displayed Across All Continents
Joshi said he waved both the Nepali and American flags across all seven continents during the challenge.
The World Marathon Challenge, conducted every year since 2015, is considered extremely challenging. Because seven marathons are organized across seven continents over seven consecutive days, it is also called the 777 Marathon.
Purpose: Promoting Nepali Heritage
Joshi said he used the short time period as an opportunity to promote Nepali heritage.
He said he took this challenging marathon as an opportunity to introduce his motherland Nepal and Nepali heritage and culture. He added that he felt extremely happy that the effort made out of respect for the soil where he was born and its heritage was successful.

Joshi lives in Grapevine City in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, Texas, and works as a banker.
