Bharatpur Metropolitan City's Initiative to Create Local Employment and Promote Self-Employment

In a bid to create local employment and encourage self-employment, Bharatpur Metropolitan City has provided various skill-based training programs to 4,524 individuals during the current fiscal year.

Focus on Skill Development

Prioritizing production, Bharatpur Metropolitan City has offered skill-based training programs ranging from one day to four months. With the increasing trend of individuals seeking employment abroad, these training programs aim to promote self-employment and generate jobs within the country. Mayor Renu Dahal highlighted that the training is designed not only for those looking to start something within Nepal but also to ease the process for those seeking jobs abroad.

Training Programs Offered

The training programs include a wide array of skills:

  • Beauty Parlor Training
  • Child Development Skills
  • Women’s Internal Capacity Building
  • Boutique and Beadwork Training
  • Rooftop Farming
  • Traditional Panchai Baja Music Training
  • Madal and Khaijadi Instrument Training
  • Montessori Training
  • Bag, Shoe, and Slipper Making
  • Pickle Making
  • Plumbing and Electrical Wiring
  • Agriculture and Bakery Skills

Additionally, the training programs include the production of cleaning and hygiene products such as laundry soap, bathing soap, dishwashing liquid, and phenyl.

Emphasis on Local Workforce

Mayor Dahal emphasized the importance of employing Nepali workers over foreign labor. She noted that many skilled workers in Nepal's industries and factories come from abroad. The goal is to replace these foreign workers with skilled Nepali laborers, thus prioritizing local employment. The free training programs have been introduced to meet the demand for skilled labor in various infrastructure development projects and other initiatives within the metropolitan city.

Future Plans

The Employment Division of Bharatpur Metropolitan City has expressed its commitment to expanding these free training programs in the upcoming fiscal year. Mayor Dahal assured that the city plans to increase the scope of these programs to provide more opportunities for skill development and employment for its residents.

By focusing on skill development and local employment, Bharatpur Metropolitan City aims to reduce dependency on foreign labor and enhance the local economy. These initiatives are steps towards building a self-reliant community, fostering growth, and ensuring that more Nepali individuals can find sustainable employment within their own country.
