The government has launched a facility that allows citizens to download their own National Identity Card. The Department of National ID and Civil Registration has brought this service into operation on a trial basis from today.
According to the department, citizens who have already received their National Identity Card number can download their identity card through the department’s official website, https://citizenportal.donidcr.gov.np/ne. The downloaded card will include the person’s photo and a QR code for online verification.
The department has stated that citizens must submit the following details in the system to download their National Identity Card:
- Name: In Nepali or English
- Date of Birth
- Citizenship Issuance Date
This new arrangement is based on point number 2 of the Government of Nepal’s 100-point agenda on governance reform. The point had mentioned an action plan to “develop a system that allows the concerned person to download the National Identity Card with the person’s photo and QR code from the department’s system.”
Earlier, public agencies or institutions had been providing services only after viewing the slip containing the National Identity Number with photo printed from the department’s system. However, from now on, the department has requested all public agencies and institutions to provide services only after verifying the details shown in the slip presented by the citizen and the details displayed after scanning the QR code on the card.
