The British College Receives International Recognition Again from the British Accreditation Council

Kathmandu

The British College, operated under the British Education Group (BEG), has again received international recognition from the United Kingdom’s British Accreditation Council (BAC) as an independent higher education institution. According to the college, The British College has succeeded in maintaining this international recognition as Nepal’s first and, so far, only educational institution to do so.

According to a statement issued by the college, this BAC recognition will remain valid until 31 May 2030. Before granting the recognition, a team of inspectors from the United Kingdom conducted a detailed evaluation of all aspects of the college, including its academic programs, quality of teaching, institutional governance, student support services, academic resources, physical infrastructure, online teaching arrangements, extracurricular activities, and graduates’ employment prospects.

Established in 1984, the British Accreditation Council (BAC) is a reputed body that has been evaluating the quality of independent higher education institutions at the international level for more than four decades. To receive BAC recognition, an institution must meet strict standards in the following six major areas:

  • Governance, strategy, and financial management
  • Academic and administrative management
  • Teaching and assessment
  • Student support and guidance
  • Physical infrastructure and learning resources
  • Quality management and improvement

Regarding this achievement, Rajen Kandel, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The British College and the British Education Group, said it was a matter of pride to be the first college in Nepal to receive such recognition. He expressed his commitment to contributing to the development of higher education in Nepal by adopting more international best practices in the days ahead.

Similarly, the college’s Academic Dean, Dr. Declan P. Bannon, said this recognition confirms the college’s academic system and its commitment to providing international-standard education. According to him, it has further strengthened the confidence of students and parents in quality education.

Lucy Fox, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of BAC, congratulated The British College, which has held BAC recognition since 2021, on its successful reaccreditation. She clarified that BAC recognition verifies that the institution has successfully passed a rigorous independent evaluation in areas such as academic management, quality assurance, and institutional governance.

The college, which has been running international-standard academic programs in collaboration with British universities, stated that despite misleading information spread recently by some groups and activities targeted at the institution, it has successfully regained recognition through an independent international evaluation process. The college believes this achievement serves as independent evidence that the institution has maintained international academic standards.
