Curriculum Development Centre releases remedial teaching materials to improve student learning
Sano Thimi, Bhaktapur - The Curriculum Development Centre, under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), has made public “Upacharathmak Shikshan Sahayogi Samagri 2082” to increase students’ learning achievement.
This material has been prepared especially for children who face difficulties in regular learning and who are struggling to achieve minimum learning outcomes.
The centre stated that this guideline has been developed for Grades 1 to 12 with the aim of making school-level education more goal-oriented and practical.
It aims to help students who have fallen behind in learning to be integrated into the mainstream of education and to increase their self-confidence.
Under the remedial teaching process, four main stages have been determined: first, identification of learning difficulty; second, plan development; third, plan implementation; and fourth, evaluation.
The guideline states that teachers should understand the student’s real condition and conduct targeted teaching individually or in small groups.
This material includes specific teaching methods and strategies for five main subjects: English, Nepali, Mathematics, Science and Technology, and Health and Physical Education.
To make learning effective, approaches such as individual teaching, peer teaching, technology-based learning, game method, and “I do–We do–You do” (I do-We do-You do) have been recommended.
The guideline also clearly sets out the roles of the headteacher, teacher, parent, School Management Committee, and education officer for improving student learning.
For effective implementation, a plan has been proposed to apply a digital record system in schools and to provide special training to teachers.
Key aspects for improving learning achievement:

Identify the initial learning status of students who face difficulty in regular learning.

Prepare and implement subject-based individual or group teaching plans (IEP).

Use concrete materials for teaching, pictures, charts, audio–video, and information technology.

Maintain regular coordination and dialogue among teachers, parents, and the School Management Committee.

Provide continuous assessment and feedback to make learning child-friendly and inclusive.
