Education Ministry Will Not Celebrate National Education Day
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has announced that it will not celebrate National Education Day this year. The ministry stated that it is unable to organize the event due to the destruction of several government structures, including the ministry itself, following the attack by the Gen Z group.
The fire caused damage to the ministry building located in Singha Durbar, making it impossible to carry out regular operations from there immediately. The ministry had already completed preparations for the celebration before the incident. National Education Day is observed every year on Ashoj 2.
The ministry had planned a national-level program to present medals, certificates, and several awards. However, Secretary Chudamani Paudel stated that due to the difficult circumstances, it will not be possible to hold the formal program this year.
He mentioned that although formal greetings will be conveyed on the occasion of Education Day, no events or programs will be conducted. The ministry has planned to operate from Keshar Mahal to continue its functions temporarily. After the physical infrastructure of the ministry was affected by the incident, preparations were made to deliver services from Keshar Mahal for some time, according to Secretary Paudel.
The ministry had shifted to Singha Durbar in 2068 BS. Before that, its operations were conducted from Keshar Mahal. Due to the soot and dirt caused by the fire, cleaning the walls, carpets, chairs, and other structures at the ministry premises in Singha Durbar will cost around NPR 700,000.
According to Under-Secretary Baikuntha Aryal, this estimate was determined after a study was conducted with representatives of the private company assigned to carry out the cleaning. He said, “The company will not construct any structures, but it will remove the black stains caused by the smoke from the walls, stairs, chairs, carpets, and other affected areas.”
