Education Must Build Citizens Responsible to the Nation: President Paudel
President Ramchandra Paudel has said that education should help individuals become conscious and responsible citizens who understand their society, culture, history, and nation.
Addressing the 75th anniversary ceremony of St. Xavier's School in Godavari and Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, on Saturday, President Paudel expressed this view.
He clarified that the true purpose of education should not be limited to achieving good examination results or obtaining certificates. Describing education as a powerful means of developing knowledge, wisdom, character, and a sense of responsibility, he said, "That is why education should help individuals become conscious and responsible citizens who understand their society, culture, history, and nation."
President Paudel emphasized that Nepal is rich in diverse languages, cultures, traditions, and ways of life. He said education provided in the country should respect this diversity and play an important role in developing a sense of national unity, social harmony, and coexistence among students. He also said that although times are changing, fundamental human values need to become even stronger.
In the modern era of rapidly developing information technology, he said answers to questions about what kind of nation Nepal should build and what kind of human resources will be needed for the future must also be sought within the education system. For this, he stressed the optimal use of technology along with curricula and teaching methods that respond to the demands of the times.
President Paudel said that one of the major responsibilities of education today is to develop citizens who possess not only knowledge and skills but also ethics, discipline, creativity, cooperation, compassion, and social responsibility.
He further said that special attention should be given to providing education that strengthens patriotism among citizens by creating conditions for domestic production and employment in ways that support import substitution and export promotion.
