Kathmandu, 2082 Magh 12 - The Film Development Board has made public the business details of Nepali films currently being screened in cinema halls.
The Board’s “Cinepa 2 Box Office” released today the transaction-related figures for Nepali films in screening, up to Saturday, Magh 10.
The film Jharipachhiko Indreni, which has been in screening since Poush 4, has not been able to earn encouraging income at the domestic box office either.
Directed by comedian Arjun Ghimire “Pande,” the film earned 1,23,88,000 up to Magh 3. A total of 3,217 tickets have been sold for the film.
The film attempts to raise a voice against corruption and irregularities. The cast includes Ganesh Upreti, Ramesh Upreti, Prakash Ghimire, Deepashree Niraula, Sarita Giri, Deshbhakta Khanal, Nirmal Sharma, Krishna Shivakoti, Krishnabhakta Maharjan, Bimochan Dabadi, Jessica Pokhrel, Priyana Acharya (Munni), Anshu Maharjan, Rajendra Nepali, among others.
The Nepali film Mugalan, in screening since Poush 10, has earned 6,31,000. A total of 2,400 tickets have been sold for the film. The cast includes Prabhat Pal, Smarika Dhakal, Shri Shivanshu, Dinesh DC, Moti Subedi, Ramchandra Adhikari, among others.
The film was directed by Ashish Dhakal and has earned a low income.
The film Eklo, in screening since Poush 17, has not been able to do good business. Directed by Pradeep Shahi, the film has earned 46,95,000. A total of 14,255 tickets have been sold. The cast includes Pradeep Khadka, Dinesh DC, Vijay Lama, Benisha Hamal, Kavita Nepali, among others.
As it did not receive positive reviews from audiences, the film has not been able to do good business.
The documentary Dimag Ghochne Manchhe, based on the biography of the late Ujjwal Thapa, a proponent and activist of alternative politics in Nepal, earned 3,12,000 within the same period.
The documentary has been in screening since Poush 25 in a limited number of cinema halls across the country, and it has been produced by the Ujjwal Thapa Foundation.
Directed by Sudip Bhaju, the documentary includes Ujjwal Thapa’s childhood, foreign education, the civic awareness campaign after his return to Nepal, and the contribution he made to alternative politics.
The documentary conveys the message of how an individual’s active engagement can bring meaningful change in society. For the production of the documentary, financial support from the general public of up to 5,00,000 was received.
Despite carrying a story of Nepali civic awareness, entrepreneurship, and social transformation, Dimag Ghochne Manchhe could not perform as expected in business terms.
The Board’s published data states that three films released from Magh 1 targeting Maghe Sankranti also could not do encouraging business.
The film Gobar Ganesh, directed by Marichman Shrestha, known in television serials as “Balchhi Dhurve,” has earned 1,14,35,000. A total of 40,234 tickets have been sold.
The cast includes, along with director Shrestha, Barsha Shivakoti, Binod Nyaupane, Padam Tamang, Nirmal Sharma, Laxminath Timilsena, Santosh Baniya, Sandeep Lama, Mao Tse Gurung, Sitadevi Timilsina, Poojan Ghimire (Puku), Buddhi Tamang, Vishal Pahadi, Ramesh Budhathoki, Swastika Lamichhane, among others.
The film Mirmire, also in screening since Magh 1, has earned 33,72,000. Based on an emotional father–daughter relationship and a triangular love story, the film features Dayahang Rai, Prakash Saput, Srijana Ninglekhu, Mao Tse Gurung, Chhulthim Gurung, Bholaraj Sapkota, Bimal Yadav, Shaisa Gauchan, Divisha Pant, Chirag Shrestha, and Namanraj Gajurel.
Directed by Yam Sherpa, the film has sold 10,813 tickets.
The film Viral Gorkhe, featuring actor Saugat Malla, earned 34,53,000 during the same period. The film has been in screening since Magh 1 and is directed by Nigam Shrestha.
Centered on people seeking to become “viral” worldwide amid the growing dominance of social media, the film features, along with Malla, actress and former Miss Nepal Srishti Shrestha, Buddhi Tamang, Laxmi Giri, Rajaram Paudel, and journalist Rishi Dhamala, among others. The film has sold 10,605 tickets.
For the past few months, the Film Development Board has been making public the business details of domestic and foreign films screened in Nepal.
