Fourth Local-Level Reading Fair Concludes in Sharada Municipality

The fourth local-level reading fair has concluded at Shiva Jan Secondary School, Shitalpati, Sharada Municipality–1. The fair, attended by 39 schools within the municipality, was organized to develop a reading culture among children, promote learning exchange, and encourage the use of educational materials.

According to the organizers, the fair was held by Sharada Municipality with technical support from Room to Read and Dalit Development Society.

Karnali Province Chief Yagya Raj Joshi inaugurated the fair. Stating that such programs are effective in raising awareness about education and building a bright future for children, he emphasized that other local levels should also continue this practice.

Similarly, Karnali Province Minister for Social Development Ghanshyam Bhandari said the foundation of quality education depends on a reading culture. He said local levels should prioritize reading habits in schools, creative learning, and technology-friendly teaching systems.

Sharada Municipality Mayor Prakash Bhandari said the campaign, which began with a small investment, is gradually becoming a model practice in Karnali Province. He said the fair has strengthened students’ creativity, reading skills, and inter-school learning exchange.

According to Liladhar Babal, Chief of the Education, Youth and Sports Section, the municipality has long prioritized library establishment, teacher training, child-friendly classroom management, and the development of educational materials.

The fair displayed educational materials prepared by schools, presentations on local history and culture, materials for improving reading skills, and students’ creative activities. Various activities were held during the fair, including reading skill assessment, drawing, picture story writing, folk songs, video content production, storytelling, cultural presentations, and career counseling.

According to Harichandra Budha, Chief Administrative Officer of Sharada Municipality, outstanding students, schools, and teachers were honored and awarded at the fair. Outstanding head teachers, school management committee chairpersons, school staff, and athletes who performed well in the President Running Shield competition were also honored.

Educationist Bir Bahadur Sejwal said the reading fair was not limited to an exhibition but had become an effective platform for learning exchange among schools, teachers, students, and parents. Similarly, Gayika B.M., Principal of Shiva Jan Secondary School, said the fair played an important role in creating a competitive and creative learning environment and bringing out students’ talents. Prakriti Bhattarai, a student of Jyotipunj Academy, said the fair helped develop reading habits and provided new learning experiences.

Chief District Officer Mahendra Kumar Sapkota, heads of various government offices, people’s representatives, teachers, students, parents, and media persons attended the program.
