Gaidahawa Rural Municipality’s Policy and Program Prioritizes ‘Educate Daughters, Save Daughters,’ Agriculture, and Health
Gaidahawa Rural Municipality in Rupandehi has made public its policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84. Rural Municipality Chairperson Surendra Paudel presented the policy and program at the ninth session held on Sunday at the former VDC assembly hall in Bishnupura, Rupandehi.
The policy and program gives main priority to agriculture, education, health, tourism, and physical infrastructure, along with social campaigns such as “Educate Daughters, Save Daughters” and “Marriage: Only After 20 Years.”
Protection of Girls and Reduction of Child Marriage
The rural municipality has given top priority to the “Educate Daughters, Save Daughters” campaign. For the past four years, it has been depositing Rs. 5,000 in a bank account in the name of each child born within the municipality.
Under the new arrangement, Rs. 5,000 will be added to that amount every year, and the money can be withdrawn only after the child turns 20. Similarly, the municipality has continued the girls’ insurance program to support the success of the “Marriage: Only After 20 Years” campaign, which aims to reduce child marriage.
Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Tourism Development
The rural municipality has presented its policy and program with the slogan, “Agriculture, education, health, employment, and trade: the basis for infrastructure development with tourism.” Chairperson Paudel stated that the municipality will give main priority to physical construction.
To increase agricultural production, the municipality will ensure effective irrigation management. It has also made arrangements to bear a certain percentage of the electricity tariff used for irrigation. The policy aims to encourage farmers engaged in agriculture and provide free grass seeds and saplings to farmers who produce fodder. The municipality also plans to arrange deep tube wells for irrigation.
For tourism promotion, the policy and program states that Gaidahawa Lake will be managed properly, steamer service will be operated, and the lake will be developed as a picnic site. The municipality has also adopted a policy of making the homestay near the lake more attractive, supporting community-based tourism in Nepal.
Expansion of Health Services
The construction of the building of Gaidahawa Basic Hospital, which is one of the rural municipality’s pride projects, has been completed. With the completion of construction, the policy and program states that services with specialists will be operated from the upcoming fiscal year. Free cataract treatment and blood transfusion services within the municipality will be continued.
Similarly, alternative medical systems such as Ayurveda, naturopathy, and homeopathy will be promoted and expanded gradually. In coordination with the federal government, the policy and program mentions the continuation of the breastfeeding service program for maternal and child health promotion, the community-level citizen wellness service program for public wellness, and the senior citizen health promotion program for geriatric health problems.
