India Grant Assistance to Build 14 Schools in Eight Districts
Agreement letters have been signed between the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Education) under the Ministry of Education and Sports and construction companies for the construction of 14 schools in eight districts of Nepal.
The schools will be constructed with grant assistance of NPR 560.2 million from the Government of India under India’s post-earthquake reconstruction assistance.
As per the agreements, educational infrastructure will be built in Gorkha, Nuwakot, Dhading, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Kavrepalanchok, Ramechhap, and Sindhupalchok districts.
The agreement signing program held at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu was attended by the Counsellor of the Development Partnership and Reconstruction Division of the Embassy, the Project Director of the Central Level Project Implementation Unit, concerned officials, and representatives of the construction companies.
The schools to be constructed will be built according to the earthquake-resistant reconstruction standards set by the Government of Nepal.
The newly constructed schools will include academic buildings, classrooms with furniture, and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.
Under the Government of India’s reconstruction grant, construction of 70 schools in eight districts and the Central Library of Tribhuvan University had already been completed and handed over to the Government of Nepal in January 2024.
The Embassy of India has stated that the Government of India remains committed to continuing cooperation with the Government of Nepal and its agencies for Nepal’s socio-economic development, including post-earthquake reconstruction projects.
