Inauguration of Jiri Secondary School Building in Dolakha
A new building of Jiri Secondary School in Jiri Municipality, Dolakha, constructed with grant assistance from the Chinese government, has been inaugurated.
In a programme organised for this purpose, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Chudamani Paudel, inaugurated the building. While inaugurating the building, Secretary Paudel said that society can be transformed only through transformation in the education sector. He stated that the development of the education sector is a priority of the ministry. He added that it is necessary to provide quality and technology-based education by making proper use of the school’s physical infrastructure.
He further remarked that education must be modern and in line with the needs of the time, and that it is necessary to develop model schools that create an environment where students come to study not only from within the district but also from other districts.
According to the school’s Principal, Kumar Jirel, the new infrastructure will make the school’s academic environment more effective and modern.
He said, “This infrastructure has created new opportunities for students, parents and the entire community. Now, students will be able to participate in learning more easily through facilities such as ultra-modern classrooms, a library, sports ground and hostels. Your continued support is essential for the long-term development of the school.”
“We have not received this structure merely as a building, but as a foundation for building the future. Each part of the infrastructure has been planned and constructed with the aim of providing quality education to students,” Jirel added. He further said that an agreement between Nepal and China for the construction of school infrastructure was signed on 28 May 2019. According to the agreement, China 19th Metallurgical Group Corporation started construction work in March 2023. The foundation stone for the structure was laid on 4 Baisakh 2080.
After construction work was completed in July 2025, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, formally handed over the school infrastructure to the Ministry of Education on 16 October, three months later. Principal Jirel stated that the new structure was formally inaugurated today on the occasion of the school’s 65th anniversary and Parent Day.
As per the agreement, 72 million RMB has been invested in the construction of the physical infrastructure. Within an area of around 6,628 square metres, the facilities include an academic building, a cafeteria with an assembly hall, a library, separate hostels for boys and girls, staff housing and a sports ground.
The programme was attended by Deputy Director General of the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development, Mahendra Parajuli; Mayor of Jiri Municipality, Mitra Bahadur Jirel; Chief District Officer of Dolakha, Narayan Risal; Deputy Mayor of Jiri Municipality, Krishnamaya Budhathoki; and other participants.
At present, a total of 507 students are studying at the school from Nursery up to Grade 12. The school has stated that classes for Grades 11 and 12 are being conducted in Science, Management and Education streams.
