JS Murarka Multiple Campus Lahan: Infrastructure and Academic Progress

JS Murarka Multiple Campus, a community campus located in Ward No. 10 of Lahan, has begun to make a noticeable impact on physical infrastructure and educational improvement. Established in 2044 BS with Lahan then being a Municipality (Nagarpanchayat) and industrialist Prameshwar Murarka from Lahan as the main donor, this campus has been a leading institution for higher education in the region.

In the past, students from this area had to travel east to Rajbiraj or west to Siraha for higher education, which left the children of poor farmers and labourers deprived of higher studies. After the establishment of the campus, it has remained a principal centre for higher education for more than three decades.

The campus initially started by conducting classes at Pashupati Adarsha Secondary School in Lahan. Later, then Chairperson of the Lahan Municipality (Nagarpanchayat), Laganlal Chaudhary, purchased 23 bigha of land for the campus. Donor Prameshwari Murarka then financed the construction of a two-storey building with 23 rooms, and the campus was named AJ Murarka Multiple Campus.

At present, with support from the University Grants and the Madhesh Province Government, a science building has been constructed at a cost of tens of millions of rupees. In addition, an ultra-modern science laboratory has been built in memory of the late Prameshwari Murarka from the Murarka donor family at a cost of more than one crore rupees. Recognising its development as a model campus by both the university and Madhesh Province, the campus has received an accreditation quality mark and a first prize.

Around four thousand students are currently studying at this campus in programs ranging up to postgraduate level in Science, Management, Education and Arts. According to Campus Chief Sanjay Chaudhary, Lahan Municipality and the donor family have been providing continuous support for the physical development and educational improvement of the campus.

Chairperson of the Campus Management Committee and Mayor of Lahan Municipality, Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary, and Morarilal Murarka, honorary chairperson representing the donor family, have expressed their confidence that the campus is working to introduce technology-oriented education as per changing needs and circumstances. With the resolve to develop it as one of the model campuses in the country, they have also expressed firm commitment towards that goal.
