The Bachelor of Science (BSc) at J.S. Murarka Multiple Campus, Lahan, is a four-year undergraduate science program affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU). It is conducted under the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST) through the annual system.
The TU BSc structure combines core science subjects with practical work, scientific communication, statistics, research methodology, electives, and advanced study in a major subject during the later years.

The four-year BSc begins with broad science study and gradually moves toward subject specialization.
In the first year, students take three core subjects from either the physical or biological group. Each subject includes theory and practical components. Scientific Communication is also included as a compulsory paper.
The second year continues the same three core subjects selected in the first year. Applied Statistics is added as a compulsory paper.
In the third year, students continue with two core subjects selected from their earlier studies. The year also includes Research Methodology and two elective courses from the respective subject pool.
In the fourth year, students concentrate on one major subject selected from the subjects studied in the third year. The curriculum also includes Project Work/Field Work or Applied Science, a compulsory computational course, and an interdisciplinary course.
Subjects included within the TU four-year BSc curriculum include:
Botany;
Chemistry;
Environmental Science;
Geology;
Mathematics;
Meteorology;
Microbiology;
Physics;
Statistics; and
Zoology.
The curriculum separates core study broadly into physical and biological science groups. The particular subject combination followed by a student is determined by the applicable TU structure and the subjects available through the campus.
Practical study forms a substantial part of the BSc curriculum. Core science subjects include separate theory and practical components during the earlier years.
Laboratory and field-based work can involve experiments, observations, data collection, scientific analysis, and preparation of practical records according to the subject studied.
Students are required to pass theory and practical components separately where both are included in a course.
J.S. Murarka Multiple Campus has a science laboratory as part of its physical facilities. The campus also maintains a computer laboratory, library and e-library, internet access, seminar hall, and teaching equipment including laptops and projectors.
Research becomes more prominent as students progress through the degree. Research Methodology is included in the third year, while the fourth-year structure provides for Project Work/Field Work or Applied Science leading to the core subject.
Project work in subjects such as Physics can include:
field-based study;
theoretical work;
computational work;
observational study; and
experimental work.
Students undertaking project work identify a problem, review relevant literature, prepare a proposal, conduct the study under supervision, submit the completed work, and take part in evaluation or presentation according to the applicable subject guidelines.
The overall BSc structure assigns 100 marks to Project Work/Field Work or the alternative Applied Science component.
The BSc follows annual examinations. Theory and practical examinations are assessed separately where applicable.
The grading scale stated in the curriculum is:
| Four-Year Average | Division |
|---|---|
| 75% and above | Distinction |
| 60–74% | First Division |
| 45–59% | Second Division |
| 35–44% | Third Division |
| Below 35% | Failed |
The full four-year BSc structure carries 2,000 marks.
J.S. Murarka Multiple Campus is a community-based institution in Lahan Municipality–10, Siraha. Science is one of the academic areas offered by the campus from the +2 level through bachelor-level study.
Facilities relevant to BSc students include:
science laboratory;
computer laboratory;
library and e-library;
internet;
seminar hall;
projectors and laptops;
printing and photocopy services; and
research-related academic activities.
The campus library contains approximately 21,993 books along with journals, newspapers, magazines, and other periodical materials.
BSc graduates may continue to postgraduate study in science or related disciplines according to the major subject completed and the admission requirements of the chosen postgraduate program.
The course structure is particularly suited to students who want to build advanced subject knowledge through theory, laboratory study, practical work, research methods, and fourth-year specialization.
