KMC Receives 13,000 Applications for Grade 11 Admission
By Monday afternoon, 13,000 students had applied for Grade 11 admission at Kathmandu Model Secondary School, under the KMC Network, at Bagbazar and Balkumari.
According to the school, the number of students and parents seeking information through physical and virtual means about admission, subject selection, scholarships, and counseling has increased.
Director Surendra Subedi said the application process is still ongoing. Since the number of students is high, an entrance examination will be conducted for selection. He said 10 centers have been designated for Tuesday’s entrance examination.
According to Subedi, Grade 11 has a capacity of 750 students at Balkumari and 2,000 students at Bagbazar. For this reason, students will be selected through an entrance examination.
Prithviraj Gaire of Palpa had reached KMC Balkumari to learn about the Management stream in Grade 11. He said he had secured a 3.70 GPA in the SEE and had applied for a scholarship, and had come to get information about it.
Sushrit Sodari of Bara had also reached KMC to learn about Grade 11 admission. Interested in IT, he said he had come to get information about the Computer subject. Director Subedi counseled both students on subject selection and study plans.
According to the school, Science, Management, and Law are taught in Grades 11 and 12. In higher education, programs including BBA, BBM, BCA, BA Psychology, Social Work, and BBS are being conducted.
KMC has stated that it has received the Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) certificate. According to the school, it received the +2 Best Learning Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education in 2075 and the Best Learning Achievement Award 2082 from Mahalaxmi Municipality.
The school has stated that it will provide scholarships of up to 20 percent to students. Students selected through Kathmandu Metropolitan City will receive a 15 percent scholarship at Bagbazar. In Lalitpur, the school has stated that it will provide scholarships in coordination with Mahalaxmi Municipality.
On the occasion of completing 25 years since its establishment, the school is preparing to provide additional scholarships this year to 50 students, with 25 each at Bagbazar and Balkumari. According to Subedi, hostel facilities are also available at Balkumari for students studying on scholarship.
According to the school, separate hostels for boys and girls are available at both Bagbazar and Balkumari. The hostels have been operated targeting students coming from outside the Valley.
The school has stated that students can choose either Bagbazar or Balkumari, whichever location is convenient for them. Subedi said transportation facilities are available in various locations of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur.
KMC conducts classes in two shifts, morning and afternoon. According to the school, 90 percent of the teachers are full-time. Subedi said subject experts and PhD-qualified teachers are also available.
The school has stated that it emphasizes practical exercises along with theoretical learning. Practical exercises have been arranged for Management, Science, and Law subjects. A model court, “moot court,” is in operation for Law students. The school has also stated that it has an incubation center and an innovation lab.
For extracurricular activities, the school has stated that sports programs including basketball, badminton, swimming, cricket, futsal, and table tennis are conducted. A theater has also been built from this year. The school has stated that activities related to psychosocial counseling, discipline-focused counseling rooms, personality development, value-based education, art, music, social service, environmental protection, and social responsibility are also conducted.
At Balkumari, the annual fee for Grade 11 Science is Rs. 207,900, while the Grade 12 fee is Rs. 197,900. For Management and Law, the Grade 11 fee is Rs. 158,900, and the Grade 12 fee is Rs. 148,900, according to the school. The source mentions that the fee at Bagbazar is slightly higher than this.
The school has stated that students from various districts have come to study there. Parikshit Thapa of Dailekh is currently appearing in the final examination of Grade 11 at KMC Balkumari. The source mentions that Prashansa Shah of Parsa came to KMC to study Science.
