Kulman Ghising's four-year term ends on Sunday:

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Kulman Ghising's four-year term is coming to an end on Sunday. Kulman Ghising, who was appointed Executive Director on 29th Bhadra 2073, is coming to the end of his four-year tenure; It is not yet decided who will be the next CEO in the authority.

NEA staff will formally farewell him. Ghising, who entered the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in 2051 BS as a seventh level engineer, was appointed as the Executive Director of NEA on 29th Bhadhra 2073 BS.

The then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and the then Energy Minister Janardan Sharma had appointed Kulman as the executive director after he was dragged from the Chilime Hydropower Company to the central office of NEA.

There is also talk of a second term for Kulman. However, no proposal has been made to repeat him in the cabinet so far.

As the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers is only on Monday, the decision to appoint a new executive director of NEA is likely to be taken only tomorrow.

Despite the government's desire not to repeat Kulman, there is pressure from the people to repeat it. Ghising is also willing to repeat himself in the next term.

So far, the ministry has been silent on whether to appoint a new executive director, give Kulman continuity or allow others to do the job.

Article 17 of the Electricity Authority Act provides that the Committee may appoint a General Manager as the Chief Administrative Officer for the operation of the Authority and advisors and staff as required. There is a provision in the Act that the Government of Nepal shall appoint an Executive Director as the Chief Administrative Officer unless there is a provision for a General Assembly.

On this basis, there is no legal impediment to re-appointing Ghasing. The Ministry of Energy is in the mood to compete openly for the post of executive director.

The Ministry of Energy has not started the process of bringing new people to the authority. Due to this, it has not been decided whether Kulman will be repeated or not.
