Kutidanda Secondary School, located in Bhimeshwar Municipality-7 Makaibari of Dolakha, has recently come up with an innovative approach to increase student enrollment. The school has formed a mother group comprising parents, with the aim of encouraging savings and improving the quality of education.
The group was formed with the intention of addressing the issue of declining student numbers. To achieve this, the school has made arrangements for female parents to save a certain amount every month, which has not only improved the enthusiasm for savings but also led to an increase in student enrollment.
The mother group currently has 95 interested women from classes 1 to 5 affiliated, and a seven-member committee has been formed with parents as president, vice-president, members, and the school secretary to run the group efficiently. A monthly meeting is held every month where savings are collected, and the collected amount is given to members for income generation.
The mother group also provides a maximum loan of 10,000 for four months to one person in collective guarantee. It is important to note that a 15 percent interest rate and interest payment in one lump sum is required. Additionally, a 10 percent interest rate is given on savings.
The savings with interest are returned in one lump sum after passing class 5, and class 1 is added to the savings cycle. The school has a demand to arrange savings till class 10th. However, this may pose some challenges as the system may become too large for the school to manage effectively.
Furthermore, the mother group provides an opportunity for parents to review their children's studies in monthly meetings. This approach promotes parental involvement in their children's education and fosters a sense of community among the parents.
