Surkhet - An interaction program was held among stakeholders at Mid-West University to identify existing problems in the examination system and to find practical solutions.
The program was organized on February 14, 2026 [2082-11-02 (BS)] at the auditorium hall of the university’s Central Office in Birendranagar, Surkhet. Organized by the Examination Management Office, the discussion focused on various challenges seen in exam conduct and management, along with measures for improvement.
Challenges in Exam Management and the Need for Technology
During the program, Associate Professor Dr. Arjun Bahadur Aidi, Chief of the Mid-West University Examination Management Office and Member Secretary of the Examination Committee, explained the rationale of the event and presented the office’s progress to date and future plan.
He pointed out the need to improve the traditional invigilation system. According to Dr. Aidi, assigning teachers as supervisors for months affects regular teaching-learning in concerned units, creates manpower shortages, and adds a significant financial burden to the university.
Stating that the justification for traditional supervision is decreasing, he emphasized that the university should not delay implementing technology-friendly methods for exam tracking and regulation alongside physical presence.
Improvements in Result Publication
Dr. Aidi also stated that continuous efforts have been made to improve examinations after he assumed office, and that there has been notable improvement in result publication.
He said the practice has been established to publish results within a maximum of two months, starting from the day after exams conclude. He added that delays in results had previously forced students to go abroad or move elsewhere, and that this situation has now ended.
Focus on System Reform and Decentralization
The program was attended by members of the university examination committee, chiefs and staff of constituent campuses, and central departments. It was chaired by Registrar Professor Dr. Shobhakhar Kandel.
Registrar Kandel said he believes in “Systems Theory” and decentralization, and clarified that his focus will be on developing the university’s overall system in line with the times. He stated that there would be a policy of not interfering in anyone’s jurisdiction, while also emphasizing that all concerned must fulfill responsibilities within their respective rights and duties.
Highlighting the need for collective commitment to maintain and enhance the university’s reputation, he issued firm directions to make examinations more dignified and well-managed. He also stressed strict compliance with the rule that all professors and staff must mandatorily remain in the office for seven hours.
He further suggested basic and scientific measures, including:

Discussion on Long-Term Solutions and Future Plans
Participants including Dean Associate Professor Dr. Anand Prasad Suvedi (also a member of the Examination Committee), Deputy Chief of Examination Management Dr. Gyan Prasad Poudel, and Yubaraj Sharma raised practical problems in the current examination system and presented measures for long-term solutions.

On the same occasion, other key future plans of the university were also discussed. Dr. Bishnu Kumar Khadka, Executive Director of the Planning Development and Monitoring Directorate, informed participants about the preparation of the academic calendar for 2083 and manpower management.
Similarly, Dr. Yadu Prasad Gyawali, Executive Director of the International Relations Directorate, shared details about preparations for the university’s upcoming second international conference. Information Technology Officer Madhav Prasad Pandey delivered a technical presentation on new software planned for use to improve the examination system.
