Education Department Directs Classes for Flood-Affected Students Only After Psychosocial Counseling
The Department of Education under the Ministry of Education and Sports has directed schools affected by the flood in Bhotekoshi, Rasuwa district, to conduct regular classes for students only after providing them with psychosocial counseling and necessary support. The Department issued the directive to the concerned local levels and schools.
A letter issued by the Department’s Planning and Program Branch states that students affected by the flood may experience fear, panic, stress, and other psychosocial effects. It therefore considers it necessary to understand their psychosocial condition before regular teaching and learning begins.
For this purpose, the Department has requested the concerned schools and local levels to coordinate with health institutions and health workers to assess the psychosocial condition of the students. Where necessary, students should be provided with psychosocial counseling and required support, and classes should be arranged only after ensuring that they are ready to participate in regular learning.
Similarly, the Department has urged schools to operate in a safe and child-friendly environment to minimize the possible adverse effects of the flood on students’ learning. It has also directed schools, health institutions, and other concerned agencies to coordinate as necessary and work by giving priority to the educational and psychosocial condition of the affected students.
